The services started at boot are selected using *rc-update* , refering to scripts found in */etc/init.d/* .I am not saying that my way is the best way by any means.This is simply my way of how I do things with a fresh install to make a stable system.You must do the installation by starting your computer from a Live CD (A Linux environment with a collection of needed tools).
